Happy New Year

It’s been a great year around here and I’m personally and professionally looking forward to the adventures in the the new year. I spent a good chunk of the day in the car, but it was a beautiful day for a drive. Happy New Year to all – the view is good!

pacific crest olympic triathlon

I’ve been talking about completing a Tri for a few years now, and yesterday, after hearing that my neighbor, Ryan is training for the Pacific Creast Long Course Triathlon I was inspired to begin reaching towards that goal!

I’m officially training for the Pacific Crest Olympic Distance Triathlon June 27th in Sunriver, Oregon. That’s a 1.5 kilometer (or 1640 yards) swim, 28 miles of biking and a 10 kilometer run. I found a schedule to keep me on track through trinewbies.com.

There are many events over the weekend, and I’m happy to announce I’ve sparked the interested of a few friends and family members!

Events:
– Long Course Triathlon
– Endurance Duathlon
– Marathon (Boston Qualifier)
– Half Marathon
– Olympic Distance Triathlon & Duathlon
– 5K & 10K Run/Walks
– Kid’s Splash Pedal-n-Dash Triathlon
– Kid’s 1-mile and 1/2-mile Dash

doe bay

back from de island

Came home to a sick bubba (dog). It appears to have been a case of separation anxiety. Wow, what a feeling to know that little creature missed me THAT much. He’s on the mend, however seems to be pissed and/or worried I’m gonna leave him again. He chewed a hole through a blanket last night and destroyed a pillow right after I left the house this morning. Bad BUBBA!

Looking forward to spending some quality time with him this weekend to get his confidence in me up once again.

But, about the trip. It was fantastic, the perfect group of ladies in a great place and with wonderful weather!

my horoscope for today

Wednesday, Nov 12th, 2008 — You may be so involved with your desire to travel now that you cannot get the thought out of your mind. But you aren’t particularly connected with the idea of going anywhere in particular for escape unless you can also learn about the people there and immerse yourself in a different side of life. Your happiness may depend upon accepting the intensity of your current wanderlust.

It’s time to travel.

"right" coast

Folly Beach, SC

Getting ready for an east coast vacation. I can hardly wait! I’m not even in the mindset yet that I’m going. Charleston, South Carolina for a week in the sun on the beach and another few days in Boston for Greg’s master’s graduation ceremony and a design conference. Check out the Fairmount Hotel where I’m staying! Baller.

clase de espanol

I started Spanish classes – tonight was the first night and it went pretty well. The teacher is totally lovable, she reminds me a lot of the instructor I had in Italy. Very open as well as confident and extremely funny without really trying.

Feels really good to be in the class, I signed up for a class last term, but they ended up canceling due to low enrollment. So it’s been a long time coming and I’m excited!!

Sage and I are still talking big about South America. I feel like there’s a lot to do before I could go, but I think this fall would be an excellent time to turn my world upside-down – literally.

missing costa rica

i’ve been seriously thinking about when my next trip down will be. no more vacation time for 2007 – so maybe another trip in january… but why do i miss it so much? was there something inherent about the people, climate, way of life… that is a great fit for me? or is it simply just that it was “somewhere else”? and a vacation?

i feel like i should get out of my comfort zone and do something different. i have been in portland for about 6 years now! well, i start my spanish classes next month – maybe things will seems a little clearer when those starts. i do know that i don’t want to simply travel around with no focus. i would like to work somewhere – teaching english is the first thing that comes to mind, although i don’t know how well-suited i am for that – would definitely be out of that comfort zone i was talking about though :)

below is the logo i designed for beto’s restaurant. initially, i wasn’t too psyched that he picked this logo – in fact i tried to talk him out of it…. but it he pointed out that my american taste is much different that tico tastes. so, this is the one he went with. it’s grown on me quite a bit – it’s a really good solution for the application for sure.
