pillars of values

I addition to the physical conditioning of my triathlon training, I’ve also been working on myself in the spiritual sense. Being someone who was not raised around any formal religious groups, my spirituality looks more like a patchwork quilt than a unified set of values. I do love quotes and find they are often a good way for me to express my beliefs and initiate though.

“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life.”
-Kahlil Gibran

I appreciate the spirit of this quote, and the way it leaves much to build on. Are our attitudes in life self-fulfilling prophecies? If so, how what constitutes a “successful” attitude versus a “doomed” one?

When I read “The Secret”, I was definitely turned off by the notion of positive thinking leading to automatic happiness and riches. And was even more turned off by the concept of negative thinking leading to bad things happening.
